October 23, 2011, Dickinson, Texas—The 2011 race season came to end this past weekend. It was an extremely challenging year considering we ran two cars in separate classes. Despite the learning curve with the 10.5” tires, the limited time between runs created the toughest challenge. Word so far from Frankie is that we will not be running a second car in a different class during the 2012 racing season.
The potential for winning money was huge as there were three possible ways: Battle of the Belts, the final Ennis race and of course the championship points race.
First up in the Battle of the Belts 10.5” race was Todd Moyer. Frankies 3.947 seconds took Todd out with his 4.767 second pass. We then faced Billy Glidden who took us at the tree and his 3.911 held up to our 3.918 seconds. Great race but we were pleased with a semi-final finish in our first year of 10.5” racing.
Our Battle of the Belts in the Pro Extreme class placed us up against Todd Tutterow. Everyone knows that he has had our number all year. Frankie was playing games at the tree and this did not phase Todd as he beat us with a 3.637 pass to our 3.657 second run. Great job all year for Todd Tutterow and his crew.
With the Battle of the Belts complete, we were able to focus on winning the final ADRL race of the season. In the XTF class, we ran a 4.063 second pass but they claim we hit a cone so our time was thrown out. Our second round of qualifying was a 3.97 second pass that put us up to #6. We did not improve on our next run as a 3.947 seconds left us in the same spot. Our quickest pass came on the final qualifying run with a 3.918 @ 200.95 mph to finish #5.
First up in XTF eliminations was Bill Devine. We smoked the tires but Devine lost traction too. Frankie got back into it and won the race with a horrible 5.046 second pass. A win is a win! Lamar Swindoll was broke so Frankie had a solo pass with a 3.959 e.t. G Mac was in the other lane in the semi-finals. His 4.091 seconds took Frankie out as we shook our tires and finished with a 4.415 seconds. Heck of driving job as he was all over the place. It was a great effort going to the semi-finals and we held the #2 spot in the championship points race barely beating Billy Glidden.
Our first PX qualifying run resulted in the track record for ET and Speed. 3.581 seconds which tied our ADRL World Record @ 211.36 mph, our fastest speed ever. Not bad! Our second run was a 3.641 @ 210.05. The quickest pass of the second round and we held the #1 spot. Our third qualifying run was a 3.657 second pass along with a 3.614 seconds pass for the fourth and final qualifying run. We won the Jeffers Pro Cars $1,000 for the top qualifying spot.
First up in the PX eliminations was Mike Recchia. His 3.747 seconds was no match for Frankies 3.662 seconds. Might I add that Frankie took him on the tree! Next up was Josh Hernandez and his Bahrain 1 team. Josh red lit and Frankie ran a 3.659 e.t. for the win. The new PX Champion Jason Hamstra was our draw in the semi-finals. The best race of the weekend for us as we left him and never looked back. 3.664 for Jason to our 3.636 e.t. In the finals, we faced Jason Scruggs who has been improving all year. Jason’s 3.604 was too strong for our 3.719 as we got lose at half track.
All in all, it was a great effort for us this weekend. Going to the finals in PX and the semi’s in XTF was a strong finish to an exciting year. To run in two separate classes and finish 2nd and 4th was very impressive. Thanks to all of our team for their efforts and sacrifices this year.
Special thanks to our sponsors Process Manufacturing Corporation and the World Motor Sports Breast Cancer Foundation.
